A beautiful antique French rosary dating from the late 19th to early 20th century, composed of natural Job’s Tears seed beads, traditionally known as larmes de Job.
For centuries these seeds have been gathered and used for prayer beads because of their natural form, each one carrying its own unique markings, texture, and variation. Their name recalls the tears of the biblical Job and they have long been associated with patience, devotion, and prayer through suffering and transformation.
This rosary features a striking wood and metal crucifix with an applied figure of Christ, along with two treasured French devotional medals: a Miraculous Medal honoring the Virgin Mary and a Saint Joseph medal inscribed Saint Joseph Priez Pour Nous.
The natural aging of the beads, the patina of the metal, and the devotional medals added along the way suggest a rosary that was carried, held, and prayed with across many years.
