Blue Benediction

€130.00

France, c. 1920–1940

A luminous French rosary composed of softly faceted sapphire blue glass beads, each containing a delicate silver foil core that catches and reflects the light with remarkable depth. Their cool, translucent color recalls stained glass illuminated during evening prayer.

The beads are connected by a beautifully aged brass chain whose warm patina complements the cool blue glass. Interspersed throughout the rosary are a series of miniature devotional medals depicting beloved Catholic symbols, including Christ, the Virgin Mary, the Sacred Heart, the Agnus Dei, and praying hands. These small medals transform the rosary into a quiet pilgrimage of images, inviting contemplation with every decade.

The centerpiece features Christ in profile on one side and Our Lady on the reverse, leading to an elegant Gothic-inspired crucifix with flowing quatrefoil ornament surrounding a finely cast silver-tone corpus.

Elegant without being ornate, this rosary carries the graceful restraint so characteristic of French devotional craftsmanship from the early twentieth century.

Condition

Very good antique condition with beautiful age-related patina throughout. The glass beads remain bright and clear with only gentle wear consistent with devotional use. The chain, medals, centerpiece, and crucifix are secure and structurally sound. There is one missing bead.

Curator’s Note

There is something almost Marian about this rosary.

Its blue beads seem to hold the color of a quiet sky just after sunset, while the tiny devotional medals create a rhythm of remembrance throughout the decades. Rather than drawing attention to itself, it invites stillness.

It is the kind of rosary that asks to be held slowly, prayed deliberately, and treasured for another generation.
