Little Flower Bénitier

€68.00

France, c. 1925–1940

An elegant French bénitier from the Art Deco era featuring a bronze relief of Saint Thérèse of Lisieux, known throughout the world as The Little Flower.

The stepped architectural frame reflects the clean geometry of the Art Deco movement, softened by a luminous stone panel and a small glass font designed to hold holy water. At its center, Saint Thérèse appears surrounded by roses, the symbol most closely associated with her promise to “let fall a shower of roses” from heaven.

Both devotional and decorative, this piece beautifully bridges sacred practice and early twentieth century French design. It would have hung near the entrance of a home, allowing family members to bless themselves upon entering or leaving.

Today it serves equally well as a wall altar piece, a devotional object, or a striking example of French religious design from the interwar years.

Condition

Good antique condition with age related wear, patina to metal surfaces, minor marks to the stone panel, and light clouding consistent with age in the original glass font. Structurally sound and ready for display.

All sales are final, each piece is one-of-a-kind
