Vintage devotional rosary with coral colored beads and shell prayer case
A small devotional pairing gathered in Paris: a vintage rosary of warm coral colored beads, joined by an ornate Marian center and elaborate crucifix, held inside an old hinged shell case.
The shell still carries its natural markings, cream, amber and rust, while the beads echo the tender pink orange of coral. Together they create a tiny portable sanctuary, something made to be opened in the hand before prayer and closed again when the prayer is finished.
Shells have accompanied pilgrimage and devotion for centuries, carried as signs of journey, baptism, protection and return. Here the shell becomes something even more intimate: a vessel for the rosary itself.
There is something beautiful about the meeting of sea and prayer. The shell once held a living creature. Now it holds fifty small invitations to return to the sacred.
