Devotional card case: c. 1890 to 1915
Finger rosary: c. 1920 to 1940

A beautifully preserved French devotional set consisting of an antique crimson leather prayer card case paired with a vintage finger rosary dedicated to Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal.

The finely grained leather case is fitted with an ornate silver toned Marian monogram, the intertwined initials “AM,” a traditional symbol for Ave Maria. During the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, these elegant pocket cases accompanied Catholics throughout daily life, protecting treasured prayer cards, holy images, indulgence certificates, and devotional keepsakes carried close to the heart.

Opening the case reveals multiple interior compartments lined in rich crimson silk, thoughtfully designed to organize small sacred papers and devotional images. The compact format made it easy to slip into a pocket or handbag before attending Mass, making a pilgrimage, or visiting a shrine.

Paired with the case is a delicate French finger rosary dating from the early twentieth century. Frosted glass beads, warm brass links, and an ornate Miraculous Medal centerpiece reflect the graceful craftsmanship of the period. Rather than a traditional crucifix, the rosary concludes with a beautifully detailed Miraculous Medal, allowing prayers to be counted while remaining discreetly held in the hand or pocket.

Together these two pieces evoke a lifetime of quiet devotion. One protected sacred words. The other carried sacred prayer. Their pairing feels entirely natural, as though reunited after many years.

Whether displayed on an altar, carried on pilgrimage, or treasured within a personal devotional collection, this set continues the quiet purpose for which it was created.
